Learning should be fun
A proud community-based, not-for-profit early childhood education and care centre, Seawinds Early Learning Centre is dedicated to nurturing the whole child, mind, body and spirit.
With our unique structure offering both long day care and fully funded, sessional kindergarten programs your child will benefit from our consistent, high-quality educational programs from six months to school-age.
What sets us apart…
THE QUALITY OF OUR TEACHING TEAM
Long-term, highly experienced staff with very low staff turnover. Our team is our biggest asset with a wealth of experience and perspectives creating a rich, educational environment for all children.
EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE
At Seawinds, we believe in following the most up-to-date research into how children learn. Enhanced oral language and early literacy programs through the Abecedarian Approach and our early literacy program implemented with the support of a specialised early years literacy teacher.
FULLY FUNDED KINDERGARTEN
A unique structure which allows children and families the benefit of fully-funded sessional 3- and 4-year-old kindergarten with the added flexibility of wrap-around before and aftercare as well as long day care on non-kinder days.
OUTDOOR LEARNING
A huge, beautiful, natural outdoor playspace which offers children all the benefits of connecting to the natural world with a variety of terrains, flora, fauna and elements of the physical world to explore.
HIGH EDUCATOR-TO-CHILD RATIO
Over-the-ratio staffing levels. A higher educator-to-child ratio provides a safer, more effective learning environment for children and decreases staff burnout and stress. It is the number one factor that influences the quality of an education and care program and leads to improved outcomes for children, educators and families.
FOOD AND NUTRITION
Food and nutrition. At Seawinds we believe that food is the foundation for lifelong health and learning. Our qualified early childhood cook creates seasonal menus in consultation with nutritionists from Peninsula Health and our families and children.
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
Strong community partnerships. Working closely with the Department of Education, Mornington Peninsula Foundation, Yooralla, Semann & Slattery early childhood consultancy, Eastbourne Primary School, Peninsula Health, Regis Aged Care and Mornington Peninsula Shire provides rich opportunities for connection and experiences for our children, families and educators.
Our Programs
Bush Kinder
During their three-year-old kindergarten year children participate in a fortnightly Bush Kinder program at Curlew Reserve, Capel Sound. They explore the environment, climb trees, make cubbies, connect to Country and develop a sense of connection with nature sorely needed in our increasingly-technological world.
Beach Kinder
Every second Friday, the 4yo kindergarten children spend a three-hour session at Capel Sound Foreshore for Beach Kinder. A wonderful opportunity to connect to the natural world and explore open-ended learning with peers and teachers supporting resilience, creativity and enhanced mental health.
Regular Walking Excursions
Throughout the year we make spontaneous excursions to other local places, such as Eastbourne Primary School to play on the ‘big kids’ playground and explore the huge garden and hills for rolling down. Depending on children’s interest, we may visit the local post box, the nearby small supermarket or a simple walk through the streets to look at all the different houses, wave to neighbours and count the numbers on the letterboxes.
Open Day October 23rd
